Novia Underwriters Inc., a specialist in medical stop lossinsurance, was acquired by Houston-based HCC Insurance HoldingsInc.

Terms of the deal were not released. HCC said the transaction isexpected to be completed shortly.

Novia, based in Indianapolis, was founded in 1997 and currentlywrites $20 million in premiums as a managing general agent.

The Novia Web site states that the firm provides marketing,selling, underwriting and administration of medical stop-lossinsurance policies to employers' self-funded medical benefit plansthrough third party administrators and brokers.

The MGA also offers group term life and other relatedproducts.

|

HCC is an international insurance holding company with assetsexceeding $7 billion.
