Activism is essential to the insurance industry, the newchairwoman of the Independent Insurance Agents & Brokers of NewYork said as she urged more involvement of her fellow agents andbrokers.

The remarks came as Manhattan insurance executive Sharon Emekwas inducted as the second woman to hold the leadership position ofthe IIABNY, during the association's annual business meeting heldin New York City last week.

“If you don't give, you don't get–and not just time but money,”Ms. Emek said. “We must have access and a seat at the table andfind the best solutions to issues we face.”
