Although Hawaiians concede they have some work to do in making their regulations more in line with the rest of the country, the Aloha State's chief overseer says the goal is to make Hawaii a global player on the insurance scene, for both the standard and alternative markets.
State officials are working to make Hawaii “more friendly and uniform with other states” and a better business environment for insurers, Insurance Commissioner Jeffrey P. Schmidt told members assembled here for the American Association of Managing General Agents 80th annual meeting.
Mr. Schmidt said Hawaii firmly supports state regulation, but understands the need for greater efficiency throughout the industry.
