The Council of Insurance Agents & Brokers said it has hiredMaura M. Nelson as vice president of marketing and communications,a new position.

Ms. Nelson has a marketing background with the circus and hoteland convention industries, and her “expertise in brand developmentwill prove especially beneficial to our members and the industry,”said Ken A. Crerar, president of the CIAB.

He said Ms. Nelson's appointment will further enhance theWashington, D.C.-based association's marketing and communicationsprograms.

Ms. Nelson previously worked as vice president of marketing andcommunications for Destination Marketing Association International,an association of convention and visitors bureaus. She also wasexecutive director of the association's research and educationalfoundation.

Prior to working for DMAI, she spent 10 years with the AmericanHotel & Lodging Association in Washington, D.C., as vicepresident of marketing and communications. She also served asnational director of public relations for Ringling Bros. and Barnum& Bailey Circus, in addition to having hotel and agency publicrelations and marketing experience.
