John V. DiMatteo, of Bethany, Conn., was elected president ofthe Professional Insurance Agents of Connecticut Inc. yesterdayduring the association's annual convention.

The new head of PIA Connecticut is president of A.A. DiMatteoInsurance Service Center, which has offices in Trumbull, Orange andBethany, Conn.

Mr. DiMatteo told his membership he hoped the association wouldwork with state legislators on new issues, such as concerns withhomeowners' inquiries and claims, rebating, and bettercommunication about how credit scores affect policyholders.

|

The association said it supports two bills that prohibitinsurance companies from taking adverse action based on aproperty's losses under a previous owner, or because a consumer hasmade a policy or coverage inquiry, or for the reporting of a claimfor which no payment is made.

|

Another bill would raise the financial limits for motorists toreflect current actual loss value in collisions and provideadditional protection to those not at fault in an accident.

|

Mr. DiMatteo said he would work for clarification or reform ofthe state workers' compensation insurance plan to identify whethera subcontractor is an employee or an independent contractor.

The association also announced the election of:

o Christopher Wilson, general manager for C.V. Mason & Co.in Bristol, Conn., president-elect.

|

o James Goodman, president of Goodman Insurance Inc. in Shelton,Conn., vice president.

|

o Michael F. Keating, president of Michael J. Keating AgencyInc. in W. Hartford, Conn., vice president.

|

o Diane L. Eger, vice president of Orange Insurance Center inOrange, Conn., treasurer.

|

o Howard Olderman, vice president and producer of Olderman andHallihan Agency Inc. in Ansonia, Conn., secretary.

|

o Joseph Bishop III, vice president and secretary of AssociatedInsurance Agencies Inc. in Hamden, Conn., was named immediate pastpresident.
