From August 2000 to August 2005, the last month for whichfigures are available, employment in the insurance industrydecreased by 42 percent, according to data from the U.S. Departmentof Labor's Bureau of Labor Statistics. Despite last August's lowunemployment rate, the average for the year was 73,000. Acomparison of annual figures over the first years of this decadeshows a steady decrease in industry jobs.
