A Modesto, Calif., chiropractor and two employees have beenarrested on charges that they repeatedly billed for services thatwere unnecessary or never rendered, potentially costing insurersmore than $10 million. From 1996 through 2004, CaliforniaDepartment of Insurance investigators believe that chiropractorWilmer Dorado Origel and his associates, Rebecca Marie Benedict andRobin Elaine Barney, conspired to over-bill workers' compensationand auto insurance carriers for services never rendered, notmedically necessary, and beyond the scope of their licensedauthority to perform.

All three were booked into the San Joaquin County jail andcharged with multiple felony counts, including insurance fraud,grand theft, and practicing medicine without certification.Origel's bail was set at $1 million, while bail for Benedict andBarney was set at $300,000 each.
