Sentry Insurance announced it has agreed to purchase VikingInsurance from United Kingdom-based Royal & SunAlliance pendingregulatory approvals. Terms of the transaction were notdisclosed.

Sentry Insurance, Stevens Point, Wis., said that the deal willdouble its presence in the specialty auto insurance market. Thecompany would not confirm nor deny reports that the transaction wasa $200 million cash sale.

Viking Insurance, Madison, Wis., is a provider of specialty autoinsurance through 7,900 independent agencies and brokers in 27states.

The proposed acquisition also includes legal entities VikingInsurance Company of Wisconsin, Viking County Mutual InsuranceCompany, and Peak Property and Casualty Insurance Corporation.

Sentry Insurance and its subsidiaries offer property andcasualty insurance, life insurance, retirement programs, employeebenefits, and related services to consumers and businessesthroughout the U.S.
