10 States that saw auto insurance rate decreases in 2026

Auto insurance affordability is showing signs of improvement in parts of the country, even as premiums remain a substantial expense for U.S. drivers. The median annual cost to insure a vehicle is $2,079, or about $173 per month, according to The Zebra's 2026 State of Insurance report. That represents a relatively modest increase from $2,016 in 2025, following several years of much sharper premium growth.
