Insurance Speak
Each February, insurance professionals come together to highlight the industry’s many rewarding career paths.
Programming around Insurance Careers Month, or ICM, covers such topics as the array of job opportunities in insurance; how the industry is re-imagining work; how insurers provide philanthropic opportunities and give back to their communities; and how insurance organizations foster mental health and wellness.
In honor of the 10th anniversary of Insurance Careers Month, this episode of Insurance Speak features three industry leaders — INSTANDA CEO and Co-Founder Tim Hardcastle; Grace Global Capital Managing Director Grace Vandecruze; and PAK Programs Creative Director Justin Guerra — reflecting on how their hobbies help buoy professional success.
Hobbies may be activities that people do for enjoyment, but they generally require some degree of learned skill and knowledge, and they also reflect popular themes of the time. For instance, stamp collecting was popular during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries while playing video games is a leading preoccupation today.
It’s worth noting that some major advances happened as the result of hobbyists or amateurs: Comets have been discovered by space enthusiasts, and it was statesman Benjamin Franklin’s preoccupation with electricity that gave the world the lighting rod and a vastly more sophisticated understanding of electrical currents — to say nothing of his contributions to modern firefighting.
To hear more from Hardcastle, Vandecruze and Guerra about how their hobbies further professional success, listen to the full Insurance Speak episode above or subscribe to our podcast on Spotify, Apple Music or Libsyn.
