At the beginning of April, Colorado State University's tropical meteorology project team released their outlook for the 2024 Atlantic Hurricane season, and if their predictions come to fruition, this year could be one of the most active on record. They forecast 23 storms this year – 11 of which will become hurricanes, and five of which could reach Category 3 or higher.

For comparison, in 2023, the Atlantic hurricane season produced 20 storms, 7 hurricanes and three hurricanes that were Category 3 or higher.
