One of the most diverse and unrecognized industries offering the greatest range of career opportunities today is the insurance industry. From agents, actuaries and claims adjusters to customer service representatives underwriters, risk managers, subrogation specialists and more, insurance combines the ability to make a positive impact during a difficult time with the opportunity to restore and rebuild after a significant loss.

ALM and Florida-based Miami Dade College have joined forces to create a new, three-week, online course designed to educate students and those considering a career change on the opportunities they can find in the insurance industry.

Insurance Careers 101: Going Beyond Jake, Flo and the Gecko is free and open to anyone who wants to explore the possibilities available in this exciting industry.

The next course will be offered on three consecutive Wednesdays, March 8,  15 and 22, and runs from 7-8:30 p.m. ET. Over the three-week period, students will learn about the history of the insurance industry, the various types of property and casualty insurance available,  and the range of careers available, as well as adjust an actual claim.

Professionals from The Hartford, PURE Insurance, Westfield Insurance and Zurich Insurance are serving as part of the course faculty.

Dr. Malou C. Harrison, executive vice president and provost at Miami Dade College says, "We think it's an area that has a real gap in knowledge and a real need and demand in terms of business and industry and potential jobs."

Miami Dade and ALM presented a similar course last fall and were able to educate dozens of students on the job opportunities available and provide an in-depth look at the industry.
