The National Councilof Insurance Legislators (NCOIL) Nominating Committee hasselected Arkansas Senator Jason Rapert to serve as president duringthe annual meeting held in Phoenix, Arizona, from Nov. 16 to 19.The report of the Nominating Committee was affirmed by theExecutive Committee.

“I am excited to assume the NCOIL presidency and look forward tocontinuing to increase state legislator participation around thenation. Our organization has been a leader in educatingpolicymakers to make informed insurance policy decisions thatprotect consumers and ensure a vibrant insurance marketplace inevery state,” Senator Rapert said. “Rep. Riggs has done anoutstanding job as president and I look forward to his counsel asimmediate past president.”

Past experience

Senator Rapert has had a successful career in the financialservices and insurance industry, has been a member of NCOIL sinceNov. 2011, chairs the Arkansas Senate Insurance & CommerceCommittee, serves on the IIPRC and was recently named co-legislatorof the year by the National Association of Mutual InsuranceCompanies. He assumes the presidency after serving in all theNCOIL officer steps beginning in 2015 — treasurer, secretaryand vice president. As an officer he has chaired the AuditCommittee, the Budget Committee and the NCOIL — NAICDialogue.

Other key members

Vermont Rep. Bill Botzow will serve as vice president, IndianaRep. Matt Lehman will remain as treasurer and CaliforniaAssemblyman Kenneth Cooley was elected to serve as secretary.Kentucky Rep. Steve Riggs and Indiana Sen. Travis Holdman willserve as immediate past presidents.

Rapert will announce committee chairs and vice chairs in thecoming weeks.
