Residents of the Monmouth County borough of Union Beach, N.J. commemorated the one-year anniversary of Superstorm Sandy with an event titled “Lights of Hope.” Carrying battery-operated candles, residents spoke of staying strong and rebuilding the homes they loved. “We're going to rebuild. We're strong. We're together,” said Abbie Evans, a 53-year-old resident whose home on Center Street was demolished three weeks ago. “This is ours. We can overcome anything.”
