In fact, drivers using hand-held devices are fourtimes more likely to get into crashes serious enough to injurethemselves, a statistic that has led to them being banned in 11states.

As a recent report from Erie Insurance shows, the consequences ofdistracted driving can also be tragic. Teen drivers are more likelythan any other age group to be involved in a fatal crash wheredistraction was cited. To reinforce good driving behaviorsduring April (which has been designated National Distracted DrivingAwareness Month) and beyond, Erie enumerates the 10 deadliestdistractions and how to avoid them. Although texting while driving(TWD) poses an enormous crash risk, with young adults listed as themost notorious offenders, it surprisingly did not claim thetop spot on the insurer's list.
