Pennsylvania has extended workers' compensation coverage toallow officers of a  limited liability company andpartnerships to obtain the insurance.

Gov. Tom Corbett signed the bill into law June 30 with an effectivedate of Aug. 29.

|

Among supporters of the legislation was the Insurance Agents& Brokers of Pennsylvania.

In a statement, Tim Burris, chairman of the Insurance Agents& Brokers of Pennsylvania, says, "Passage of this legislationis a significant victory for member agents and their clients. LLCsand partnerships are growing business models, and before this, theywere exempted from compulsory coverage in the Workers' CompensationAct."

The association argued that its agency members were concernedwith the inability to write the insurance for their clients, andthemselves.

The law allows private companies and the State Workers InsuranceFund to write coverage.
