|Pennsylvania has extended workers' compensation coverage toallow officers of a limited liability company andpartnerships to obtain the insurance.
|Gov. Tom Corbett signed the bill into law June 30 with an effectivedate of Aug. 29.
|Among supporters of the legislation was the Insurance Agents& Brokers of Pennsylvania.
|In a statement, Tim Burris, chairman of the Insurance Agents& Brokers of Pennsylvania, says, "Passage of this legislationis a significant victory for member agents and their clients. LLCsand partnerships are growing business models, and before this, theywere exempted from compulsory coverage in the Workers' CompensationAct."
|The association argued that its agency members were concernedwith the inability to write the insurance for their clients, andthemselves.
|The law allows private companies and the State Workers InsuranceFund to write coverage.
