The American Academy of Actuaries announced that Mary Frances Miller, a consulting actuary with Select Actuarial Services in Nashville, Tenn., became the group's new president.

Ms. Miller was installed at a ceremony that took place during the Academy's annual meeting and luncheon, where she received the presidential gavel from outgoing President Ken Hohman.

Ms. Miller was unanimously elected by the Academy's board of directors to the office of president-elect in October 2009.

As president-elect, she served on the Academy's board of directors and executive committee. She also was charged with leading the Academy's Strategic Planning Committee.

Ms. Miller has more than 20 years of actuarial experience. She first served on the American Academy of Actuaries board of directors from 2002-2004 during her tenure as president-elect and president of the Casualty Actuarial Society.

The Academy also announced that its members elected five regular directors at the annual meeting:

o Marc Oberholtzer, a principal for PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP in Philadelphia.

o Jeffrey Petertil, an independent consulting actuary based in Oak Park, Ill.

o Stephen Preston, a life insurance actuary, who was formerly the U.S. chief insurance risk officer at ING Group and currently is on work sabbatical.

o Catherine Murphy-Barron, a consulting actuary for Milliman Inc., in New York
