In a down economy and relatively soft insurance market,independent agencies have had a hard time holding their own, letalone increasing their revenues. But York International Agency hasmanaged to generate growth even in these challenging times with itsrisk management emphasis.

The Yonkers, N.Y.-based firm saw its total commercial linespremium volume increase from $66 million in 2006, to $70 million in2007, and to $72 million in 2008. The agency's total income duringthat time grew as well, from $8.1 million in 2006, to $9.4 millionin 2007, and up to $9.6 million in 2008.

That ability to grow no matter what state the market or economyis in helped York International make the grade as one of threewinners in the eighth-annual National UnderwriterCommercial Insurance Agency of the Year Award program, earning thefirm an Honorable Mention.
