The International Insurance Society has announced the passing of the organization's founder, Dr. John S. Bickley. Bickley founded the International Insurance Society Inc. and the Insurance Hall of Fame, serving as president and CEO from its inception until his retirement in 1988.

Bickely's teaching career spanned 50 years, and he held academic positions at The University of Alabama, The University of Wisconsin, The University of Washington, Ohio State University, Stanford University and other universities across the U.S. He also worked for various insurance companies and the United States Army.

Bickely grandfathered the concept of risk management and established the Journal of Risk and Insurance. He also wrote a best-selling scholarly study, "Trends and Problems in Insurance Marketing."
