Tropical Storm Fay reached Cape Romano, Fla., at 5 a.m. on Tuesday, August 19. AIR Worldwide does not expect significant insured wind losses in the U.S.
Not categorized as a hurricane, Fay came onshore with sustained winds of nearly 60 mph. Though some homes may sustain slight damage, beachfront resorts and condos should not be affected. No significant damage has been reported in the Florida Keys, where Fay also hit.
Because Fay is traveling over the moist surface of the Everglades, the wind speeds remain near 60 mph. Rainfall is expected to accumulate 5 to 10 inches across most of Florida, and some areas may receive up to 15 inches. According to the National Hurricane Center, tornadoes may occur over southern and central Florida. If Fay travels over warm ocean waters again, it may reintensify.
