Alabama Insurance Commissioner Walter Bell–a prominent player on the international regulatory stage who served as president of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners last year–announced he will leave his post at the end of the month.
Mr. Bell has not yet said what he plans to do after he leaves the Alabama Department of Insurance.
"Walter's deep knowledge and understanding of the insurance industry has been a tremendous asset to the people of Alabama," Gov. Robert Riley, the Republican who appointed Mr. Bell in January 2003, said in a statement.
