What a year! What a time to be working for an independent insurance agency! What a time to be trying to perpetuate the ownership of your agency internally!

The challenges facing the business today are many–a brutally soft property-casualty market, the prospect of nationalized health insurance, a lousy economy, potential increases in capital gains tax rates on the political horizon, contingency compensation arrangements still under attack, a lack of young talent coming into the industry…and so on and so on.

You can't turn around these days without running into an industry expert who will tell you that our better days are behind us, that the future of our industry is bleak, and that it is time to sell your agency. Get out while the getting is good!
