Southfield, Mich.-based specialty commercial insurance carrier First Mercury Financial Corp. has named Terrance “Terry” A. Fleckenstein as its chief claims officer.

He will oversee all aspects of claims management and administration for First Mercury's specialty underwriting platforms that include CoverX.

Mr. Fleckenstein has over 23 years experience in the insurance industry, including most recently serving as senior vice president of claims for Great American Custom Insurance Services Inc.

He has served in various leadership positions for Farmers Group Inc. and State Farm Insurance Companies with operational roles in claims, marketing and underwriting.

“We are pleased to welcome Terry to the First Mercury team,” Richard H. Smith, First Mercury chairman and chief executive officer, said in a statement. “His experience in the insurance industry and litigation management will help us to continue to build on our best-in-class claims operation at First Mercury.”
