Facebook, long the realm of socially hyperactive collegestudents and internet-addicted high schoolers, is now home to theVirginia State Police's new insurance fraud initiative.

The Virginia State Police's Insurance Fraud Program (IFP) isutilizing the social-networking titan to further their fightagainst insurance fraud, part of a new cyber campaign to educatecitizens about the ramifications of insurance fraud and how tocombat it.

StampOutFraud.com, the IFP's web site, has been revamped to makeit more interactive and user-friendly. Visitors toStampOutFraud.com can click on the Facebook link on the home pagethat takes them to the IFP's fan page on Facebook. There they canview videos, read the latest news, and become part of theanti-fraud community. The Facebook fan page can also be accessed bysearching Stamp Out Fraud on Facebook.com.

Two videos are currently posted on Facebook. The first oneprovides information to citizens about protecting themselvesagainst insurance fraud. The second exclusive Facebook video, shotat the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety in Ruckersville, Va.,emphasizes the networking opportunities that exist between lawenforcement and insurance investigators, as provided by theInternational Association of Special Investigation Units.
