Claims News Service, August 4, 10:54 a.m. EST — According to a Guy Carpenter catastrophe report released at 5 a.m. EST today, Tropical Storm Edouard is located in the Gulf of Mexico, approximately 185 miles southeast of Lafayette, La. and is packing sustained winds of around 50 mph, according to the National Hurricane Center (NHC).
The storm is traveling in a west-northwest direction and this motion is expected to continue over the next 24 hours. On its current forecast path, the NHC said Edouard is expected to be very near the upper Texas coast or the southwestern coast of Louisiana by tomorrow morning.
The NHC said tropical storm-force winds extend 35 miles from the center of the storm. A tropical storm warning is in effect from the mouth of the Mississippi River westward to San Luis Pass. A hurricane watch has also been issued from west of Intracoastal City, Louisiana, to Port O'Connor in Texas. The NHC said Edouard could produce 2 to 4 inches of rain in parts of Louisiana and Texas, with up to 6 inches possible in some areas. The NHC also warned that Edouard could cause coastal storm surge flooding of 2 to 4 feet above normal levels near the landfall location.
