The National Conference of Insurance Legislators' resolution that supports state regulation of the use of credit information in personal insurance was adopted July 11 at the NCOIL Summer Meeting in New York.

The NCOIL resolution, sponsored by Representative George Keiser of North Dakota opposes federal legislation that would restrict a state's lawmaking ability regarding the use of consumer credit information. NCOIL has said that these federal bills infringe on states' authority to oversee insurance and would disregard legislatures' ability to determine what is best for their individual states.
