The National Conference of Insurance Legislators (NCOIL) has warned state officials of the dangers of the Insurance Information Act of 2008, H.R. 5840.

This legislation would enable the Treasury Department to preempt state insurance laws and consumer protections.

NCOIL sent letters to all state governors and attorneys general, strongly urging state officials to stand up for the state-based system of insurance regulation and oppose preemptions by the federal government.
