The U.S. House of Representatives' hearing June 10 on the Insurance Information Act of 2008 (H.R. 5840) may prompt renewed interest in regulatory modernization issues and proposals to create an optional federal charter, according to the Insurance Information Institute (I.I.I.).

The measure would create a federal Office of Insurance Information within the U.S. Treasury Department to provide insurance policy advice and expertise to the executive branch and Congress.
