Ascension Insurance Inc., a Kansas City-based brokerage, named Calvin J. Stolle as its CFO and two other appointments.

Mr. Stolle was named executive vice president, chief financial officer. He will direct all of Ascension's finances, accounting and strategic acquisition support, the company said.

Previously, Mr. Stolle held senior financial management positions at Black & Veatch Corporation. He has 30 year's of executive-level experience, holding senior finance positions at Seaboard Farms and KPMG.

The firm also announced it named John D. Doak as senior vice president, acquisitions. He will be charged with identifying “high-quality insurance agencies and employee benefits firms for acquisition,” Ascension said. Most recently, Mr. Doak served as resident managing director at Aon Risk Services and was responsible for Oklahoma agency management and business development. He also served as an officer at Marsh and has 18 years of executive and operations management experience.

Sydney Shaw was named senior president, controller, and will manage the firm's financial and accounting functions, the company said. Most recently, he was CEO of S&S Financial Services, and Ascension said that he has also held “high-level finance and accounting management” positions at Hallmark Cards, Sprint, Motorola and Aventis Pharmaceuticals.

Ascension was founded in August 2007 to create an insurance brokerage firm offering high-quality property and casualty, risk management, and employee benefits products and services to middle-market companies. The company said it has $50 million in private equity funds with the aim to acquire “recognized regional agencies with $7-to-$40 million in revenue.”
