A New York man has been arrested on charges of insurance fraud after being charged with assaulting an elderly woman with a shopping cart.
According to the New York State Insurance Department, James M. Curcio tried to claim $9,000 in lost-wage benefits for an 18-week period starting in April 2007, the cause being an auto accident. An investigation revealed that he was without a job at the time of the accident.
He began working as a part-time cook in May, but was fired after spending time in jail on assault and theft charges rather than working his job. Curcio was accused of taking a shopping cart and pushing it into an elderly woman and fleeing the scene with the cart and groceries.
