A California woman has recently been charged with one count of felony workers' compensation fraud after falsifying medical forms to receive temporary disability benefits.
According to independent insurance brokerage firm Kennan & Associates, a Visalia, California teacher, Stephanie Grantham, was employed by Porterville Unified School District at the time of the original work injury and falsified medical documents in order to extend her workers' compensation benefits. The school district was notified of the discrepancies in the medical documents and reported them to Keenan & Associates.
The case was investigated by the Porterville Unified District Personnel Office and the District Attorney inspectors. Grantham faces a 90-day prison sentence and agreed to reimburse the District for the period she received temporary disability funds.
