Seattle-based Safeco announced today it will provide up to$250,000 to support relief efforts for victims of the SouthernCalifornia wildfires.

Safeco said a $50,000 grant will be donated immediately to theSan Diego/Imperial County Red Cross.

In addition, the company is encouraging its employees andindependent agent partners to contribute to relief efforts bymatching their cash contributions to the area Red Cross and theSalvation Army/Sierra Del Mar up to $100,000.

"While we have our claims professionals on the ground helpingSafeco policyholders, we also want to reach out to the entirecommunity at this time of great need," said Virginia Anderson,president of the Safeco Insurance Foundation, in a statement.

Safeco said it is also launching a countrywide employee drive tocollect 1,000 brand new stuffed animals for children whose familieshave sustained major fire losses.
