Referendum 67 is rallying support from elected officials all over the state of Washington and beyond. Governor Christie Gregoire endorses the action in addition to many other elected officials including Insurance Commissioner Mike Kreidler , King, Pierce, Snohomish county executives, Seattle Mayor Greg Nickels, and 59 state legislators.

According to approve67.org, the referendum will move to require that insurance companies treat their policyholders honestly and fairly. The essence of R-67 is to prohibit insurers from unreasonably denying coverage or payment of benefits to first party claimants.

Referendum 67 also entitles claimants to all damages and litigation costs if the insurer unreasonably denies benefits, or is found to be in violation of one of five of the administrative rules outlines by the Office of the Insurance Commissioner. Under this act, a claimant is required to give 20 days written notice to the Office of the Insurance Commissioner and the insurer.
