Driving this fall can be dangerous with the deer population moving due to the migration and mating season happening now and typically running through December. Consequently, most vehicle collisions with deer occur during this time of year, so drivers need to be wary.
According to the Insurance Information Institute, not only is urban sprawl displacing deer from their natural habitat, but the deer population is also growing and many of these deer find their way onto highways and into suburban neighborhoods, especially during deer season.
The I.I.I. also reports that some states experience more deer accidents than others. Claim statistics show that the states with the most deer collisions from 2005 to 2006 were Pennsylvania, Michigan, Illinois, Ohio, Georgia, Virginia, Minnesota, Texas, Indiana and South Carolina.
