The Federation of Afro-Asian Insurers & Reinsurers (FAIR) announced that its annual conference next month will focus on opportunities and threats in insurance and reinsurance in the FAIR Market Countries.

The meeting will run from Oct. 18-20 in Marrakech, Kingdom of Morocco.

Globalization and deregulation of the reinsurance and insurance industry in the FAIR Market is the first topic listed for discussion on the program.

Speakers scheduled for that opening plenary session, chaired by Sheikh Khaldoun Barakat, president of Red Sea Insurance K.S.A, are: Zhang Hong, vice president China Re Group, China; Thami. Yahyaoui, deputy manager, DAPS, Morocco; Albert Nduna, chairman Zim Re, Zimbabwe.

Other scheduled topics include: new insurance products, Takaful, personal-lines and banc assurance; corporate governance in the regional reinsurance/insurance markets; capabilities of the FAIR pools and other alliances in the region.

Among the other nations providing conference speakers are India, Iran, Egypt, France, Switzerland, Turkey, Malaysia and Germany.

Conference attendance fees are $450 for members, $650 for observers and $250 for an accompanying person.

Companies that qualify for FAIR membership have at least 51 percent Afro-Asian ownership and a head office situated in Africa or Asia.

Associate membership is available to other Afro-Asian national insurance or reinsurance companies whose head office is situated in Africa or Asia, and any African or Asian national insurance association or institution.
