The inaugural National Underwriter "Award For Excellence In Workers' Compensation Risk Management" has been presented to Belk Inc., a Charlotte, N.C.-based department store chain in business since 1888. Honorable Mention was awarded to two other finalists--Kitty Hawk, a Dallas/Fort Worth-based cargo company, and Chantilly, Va.-based Rolls-Royce North America.
NU Editor In Chief Sam Friedman presented the "2007 Champion" award to Belk's director of risk management, Gary A. Nesbit, during the opening general session of the Workers' Compensation Educational Conference, as part of the annual national trends program put on by NU at the Orlando meeting.
Mr. Friedman also awarded Honorable Mention plaques to the risk managers of the two finalists--Bob Buchanan of Kitty Hawk, and Robert Osha of Rolls-Royce North America.
