When asked how to get the risk management message out to front-line workers and supervisors, Belk cited examples for its industry–retailing.

o Show how a workers' comp injury affects them.

If you talk to employees about a tenured associate being out of work for four weeks because of an injury, "they can go right down the list–it affects my customers, they have personal relationships with customers–that goes out the window. And other people have to shift duties, so it impacts productivity and sales," noted Gary A. Nesbit, director of risk management.
