California Insurance Commissioner Steve Poizner recently announced that the California Department of Insurance has uncovered a fraud scheme of a former insurance broker and Newport Beach resident, Thomas Joseph Doino.

According to the CDI investigation, Doino allegedly kept a personal stash of more than $7,000 that he collected in auto insurance premiums he collected from customers.

The investigation proposed that in 2004 and 2006, Doino secured over $7,000 in auto insurance premiums from at least 11 victims, who were believed to be inexperienced insurance buyers. He provided customers with phony insurance cards and receipts, led them to believe they were purchasing valid policies. Doino pocketed the premium payments instead of forwarding them on to the insurance companies.
