It was ironic that while I moderated a panel discussion among my insurance journalism peers about media relations last week in New Orleans at the Risk and Insurance Management Society’s annual conference, two major brokerages provided case studies on how to take positive news and ruin it with negative press.

For example, I would like to report what Al Gore told some 1,300 risk managers at a client breakfast hosted by Marsh during the convention. Unfortunately, the former vice president and current global warming crusader banned press coverage of his speech, and Marsh let him get away with it.
