Every year, Claims Magazine awards an academicscholarship to a student studying at the Katie School of Insuranceand Financial Services at Illinois State University. The programprepares its students for careers in insurance and risk managementthrough on-the-job learning opportunities and internships. Thisyear's recipient, Andrew Joseph Rector, talked with AssociateEditor Eric Gilkey about his experiences at the school and hisplans for the future.

What's been most memorable moments for you at the KatieSchool?

The most memorable moments I have experienced have beenconferences like the Risk and Employee Benefits Exposition and theNational Association of Professional Surplus Lines Offices becauseI heard differing insights from both young and seasonedprofessionals in several lines of business. As a result, I was ableto quickly learn why the insurance industry is a great place towork. Even more valuable, though, was the fact that I was able toget a feel of what types of jobs would best suit a person likeme.
