The Chubb Group of Insurance Companies has launched an online tool to help put personal insurance customers in touch with the carrier's network of preferred independent auto-body repair shops. The new inquiry tool was developed based on feedback from agents and brokers to improve customer service and satisfaction.A part of Chubb's Masterpiece Auto Preference Services program, the repair network is available online to agents and brokers, so customers can begin the repair process more quickly. Repair shop information can be obtained at any time.

"When accidents occur, our customers don't want to wait around to learn when and where their cars will be repaired. They also want to be assured their cars will be repaired by qualified service people," says William S. Crowley, Chubb's worldwide auto claims manager.

Chubb customers can select any repair shop they like; however, Chubb guarantees the workmanship of repairs done by the preferred auto repair shops for as long as the insureds own the vehicles. The online tool will support as well business auto policyholders with passenger vehicles and light-duty pickup trucks.

In addition, Chubb has launched Masterpiece HomeScan, a complimentary infrared thermography service to help its homeowners policyholders find moisture and electrical hot spots that, if left undetected, could lead to severe water damage and fire losses. Chubb's home appraisal staff will use state-of-the-art infrared cameras to scan walls and ceilings. The cameras also detect poorly insulated areas, which can result in higher heating and cooling costs and bursting frozen water pipes.

"This technology allows us to help detect problems that are developing behind walls before they result in devastating losses to lives and property," says Scott Spencer, senior vice president, Chubb & Son, and worldwide appraisal manager, Chubb Personal Insurance. "In addition, the technology can help reduce repair costs by pinpointing the problem instead of knocking down huge sections of the wall or ceiling."

Previously used to inspect the buildings and equipment of Chubb's commercial customers, the infrared cameras now are being called on in high-valued homes. The cameras register different surface temperatures and visualize thermal anomalies in a variety of colors.
