For years, it was the tech-minded principals and staff who pushed technology within agencies and broker operations. They were the ones who first understood the hardware--DOS-based PCs with a floppy drive and green screen.

They read up on all of the literature and made the call on which software to use. They could even do a little programming and knew how to fix problems when they inevitably occurred. These individuals were excited about automation, and they made technology an important part of their agency operations.

Fast forward 20 or more years, and these technophiles are still among us. They still show up at user group meetings and other industry technology events. They still fill leadership roles in agency technology initiatives. But they are not alone. They've been joined by others:
