Beginning July 15, The Hartford Financial Services Group will be offering Emergency Claim Cards to its policyholders who sustain losses after a catastrophic event. The debit cards, issued by JP Morgan Chase, can be used at ATMs to withdraw cash or at stores, in which case a personal identification number will be required to ensure that stolen or lost cards will not be misused.

Once the claim has been assessed, the card will be issued by Hartford claim handlers to affected policyholders directly at the catastrophe site or the nearest accessible location. The claim personnel will determine the amount of money to be allocated and activate the card within 24 hours.

"People whose homes have been destroyed by a hurricane or other catastrophe need food and shelter, of course, but they also need basic items like toothbrushes, clean clothes, and diapers," said Juan Andrade, executive vice president of The Hartford's Property & Casualty Operations' claim organization.
