Producers, like most professionals, have different levels of technical sophistication, yet the general public might not recognize the need for such knowledge-based sophistication when they buy insurance.

The question posed to NU's readership for this column was: "Ethically, should professional producers work toward different levels of licensing that reflect the knowledge and experience required for the products and services they offer?"

No respondent was strong in support of either more levels of licensing to reflect relative ability or an ethical obligation to work toward such levels of licensing.
