One couple's scheme was recently shattered when a man was arrested on fraud charges of eating glass to get insurance money.
According to the District of Massachusetts U.S. Attorney's Office, Ronald Evano (aka Robert Evano, Robert Dixon, Ron Stevens, Ronald Ross, Ronald Rose, Robert Reed, Alex Benton, Ron Evans, and Donald Hill), age unknown, and Mary Evano (aka Mary Evans, Lisa Benton, Mary Dixon, Nancy Stevens, Lisa Moore, Mary Reed, Nancy Dixon, and Connie Hill), age also unknown, took part in an insurance fraud scheme in which they submitted false claims in Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Maryland, and the District of Columbia. The Evanos falsely claimed that they had been injured by various hotels, restaurants, and supermarkets that had served them food with glass particles. The Evanos had various residences in Massachusetts, Maryland, and West Virginia.
The Evanos intentionally ingested glass particles and then falsely claimed that the restaurants, hotels, and supermarkets had caused the particles to be in food that they were served. They submitted various glass ingestion claims under a variety of identities, using false identification and social security numbers. Through their scheme, they obtained in excess of $200,000 and incurred over $100,000 in medical bills, which are unpaid to date.
