According to a recent report from Guy Carpenter, at least 12 people were killed and thousands of homes and businesses damaged as more tornadoes and severe storms hit Tennessee and surrounding states April 7 and 8.

The National Weather Service (NWS) estimated that 48 tornadoes touched down in Tennessee, Mississippi, Alabama, Kentucky, and Georgia. Reports said Tennessee was the hardest hit by the storms, the Nashville area being the worst. Tornadoes touched down in Nashville suburbs Goodlettsville, Hendersonville, Ashland City, and Holladay. Nine people were killed in Sumner County and three more died in Warren County, emergency officials said, with at least 160 people injured. The Tennessee Emergency Management Agency said around 3,000 homes, businesses, and farms were damaged or destroyed.

Mississippi, Alabama, and Kentucky were also affected by the storms. In Mississippi, winds of up to 65 mph destroyed 55 homes in three counties. The severe weather also damaged schools, homes, and businesses in parts of northern Alabama. In Kentucky, according to the report, dozens of mobile homes were damaged or destroyed after a tornado touched down in the counties of Barren and Metcalfe. The severe weather also battered other parts of southern United States, hitting Georgia and damaging homes and businesses near the state capital of Atlanta , where at least four tornadoes touched down, according to the NWS.
