The environment isn't the only thing benefiting from thedevelopment of hybrid cars. Beginning last month, St. PaulTravelers is giving a 10 percent discount on auto insurance tohybrid vehicle owners in the United States.

As of August 2005, U.S. roads saw 328,157 registered hybridvehicles. Most were in California, followed by Virginia,Washington, and Florida. Los Angeles tops the list for most hybridsby city, followed by San Francisco, Washington, D.C., and New York.According to the Travelers, hybrid owners insured with the companytypically are married and between the ages of 41 and 60. Gender isequally represented.

“Our preliminary research indicates that hybrid owners tend tofall into the preferred insured category, and at Travelers, lowerrisk drivers are rewarded with lower premiums,” said GregToczydlowski, senior vice president of product management forTravelers.
