Claims News Service, Feb. 13, 11:31 a.m. EST — “A little fib here … a slight exaggeration there …” is how the Virginia State Police Insurance Fraud Program's recently released television commercial begins, targeting the most popular form of insurance fraud, exaggerated claims.

The ad, running on Virginia network and cable stations an online through March, also mentions the amount that insurance fraud costs the U.S. economy each year: at least $85 billion. Viewers are encouraged to help fight fraud and report suspected incidents via a toll-free number and a web site (877-623-7283, www.stampoutfraud.com), with the possibility of financial rewards if an arrest is made.
