Claims News Service, Feb. 13, 11:32 a.m. EST — The Institute for Business & Home Safety has conceived a new strategic long-range plan that includes prevention of the effects of both natural disasters and other property loss events.
For nearly 30 years, the nonprofit association has focused its efforts on reducing the frequency and severity of property losses caused by natural disasters. But given recent property claim severity in relation to water losses, IBHS saw a need to expand its charge.
“What all such losses have in common is that many could be reduced, even prevented,” said IBHS President and CEO Harvey Ryland. “Whether it's through building codes, construction methods, maintenance practices or business continuity plans, we do know how to reduce the residential and commercial impact of these incidents.”
