In our last edition, I revealed my choices for the “Top 10 P&C Insurance Stories Of 2005.” Hindsight is 20-20, but this week I'll go out on a limb and predict some candidates for the Top 10 in the year ahead.

o Spitzer In A Landslide! New York's crusading attorney general, who turned the insurance world upside down, wins the state's gubernatorial race in a walk. When inaugurated in 2007, he gets to pick the new insurance commissioner! (The line to redomicile starts down the block.)

o Hank Beats The Rap! Heat from accounting probes might have driven Maurice Greenberg out of AIG's kitchen, but Mr. Spitzer, for one, has already revealed he won't file criminal charges over allegations that books were cooked with finite re deals. I doubt “Hank” will ever settle if it means admitting any wrongdoing. In the end, Mr. Spitzer won't lay a glove on him–although the damage has already been done.
